Beautiful Night, Beautiful Voices

On Monday night the client of one of the teams here, Ekaterinburg City Convention Centre, invited us to an open air concert to mark the opening of the Vienna Film Festival.  The Festival is running for just over a week and every night they have open air movies from Austria.

The open act was the Vienna Boys Choir - live.

It was such a beautiful evening and the concert was great.   It made me reminisce as one of the first concerts my parents ever took to to was the Vienna Boys Choir.  I can remember how old I was but guessing about 10 .... so many years ago.

The choir still wears sailor suits - but that is about the only thing that would be the same.  The choir is now very multi-cultural - including Chinese and Indians.  I am sure when I first saw them the choir was mono-cultural.  Also they sang a huge variety of songs starting with very traditional classical music, moving on to Austrian folk songs and finish up with modern music, i.e. Bill Joel, Queen and Michael Jackson.

We found out that there are actually four Vienna Boy's Choirs and they spend their time traveling the world.   This choir had been to the USA for 9 weeks, Croatia and Great Britain already this year.

The boys are from 10-14 years old - they have to finish up in the choir once they have their 15th birthday.

Here are some pictures from the night

This photo is of Svetlana and her son and grandson.  It was Svetlana who got us the tickets.

After the concert we walked back to the hotel - about a one hour walk.   The concert finished around 10.00 p.m. and we got back to the hotel about 11.00 p.m. - you will see from these photos how light it stays in the evening
