The First of the Team Arrive

The Team I will be working with in Ekaterinburg started to arrive today - the first three here were Vilma from Lithuania, Thamrong (Fite) from Thailand and Abhinav from US.

They all arrived very early in the morning so I did not think I would hear from them until later in the day but I saw Fite on facebook and we arranged to meet up and walk over to the supermarket together.  Fite is the only one of the team I know - we had been in a meeting together in Singapore about 7 years ago.

Before heading  to the supermarket we stopped and had a coffee in a very nice Cafe - the Sky Club.  I was very impressed with the decorations on the cappuccino ... and the cappuccino itself was very good!

Fite went back to the hotel to sleep and as it was cold - only about 13 degrees - I decided to stay in my room and that is when I moved my blog to this new tool - which hopefully will prove to be more stable!

In the evening Fite, Vilma and I headed out for dinner at an Italian Restaurant - Mamma's Big House.  The food was very nice and not that expensive - 2 courses and a beer for NZ$24.

After dinner we wandered back to the hotel.   It stays so light here at night - the following photos were take around 9.00 p.m.

The only way you could tell it was late was that the shadows were very long - probably the only time I will look like I have Elle MacPherson legs :-)

Even at 10.30 p.m. when I went to bed it was light outside - this view is from my bedroom window - and yes there is mesh over the windows and it does look a bit like a prison block - but it is actually quite a nice hotel and the people who work here are all very welcoming and friendly.  Also my room is lovely and sunny in the evening.

This is a photo of the hotel entrance - so you can see it is not quite as bad as the view from my window.
