On Sunday, 30 June we got up again early and headed to Beryozovkyi a gold mining town.
The Urals are very rich in minerals, including gold, emeralds and platinum.
Firstly we visited a mine to see how gold had been mined in the past
We then went to the river to hear more about the gold deposits in the Urals and to look for gold. In Russia, what we in New Zealand call "panning for gold" they call 'washing gold"
As I could not walk down to the river because of my ankle I spent my time photographing the wild flowers around the river bank and dodging the huge musquitos
The trip was arranged by one of the team's clients and included three people who are not part of our team - one was a Dutch women who had actually worked for IBM in the past and the other two were an Indian gentleman who scouts sites for Bolywood movies and his Russian business partner who provides Russian actors for Bolywood movies. The Russian women had provided all the Russian actors in the Bolywood film "Players" which was filmed in Wellington. She had also accompanied them to Wellington and had visited Auckland.

Olga one of our clients found a reasonable size piece of gold - about half the size of my small finger nail.
